The Student Turnout Projects is our flagship operation – a cohort of state-based organizations working to organize college campuses with scrapiness and creativity. We’re looking for a Director to lead work in this vertical. The Director will be accountable for the success of STP 2026 programming, including the potential incubation of new state-based organizations, and will hire a team to help in-state leaders execute at a high level.

As we look to 2026, we’re continuing to support and evolve programming with our existing partners, while continuing to innovate and incubate new programming that will drive record Gen-Z turnout in 2026 and 2028 elections.

The Role

The Student Turnout Project seeks a Director to lead our organizing work with college campuses. The Director will be accountable for the success of our 2026 programming and will hire a team to help in-state leaders execute at a high level.

In this role, you would:

  • Build and Manage a National Team
    • Recruit, train, and manage a team of senior leaders who will provide support to in-state leaders around program, data, digital, and other areas that you’ll determine in partnership with in-state leads (i.e. research + messaging, training, etc).
    • Develop systems for monitoring the health of STP programming and design interventions to facilitate program success
    • Manage team on a daily basis
  • Advise In-State Leaders
    • Be the primary point of contact for STP State Directors and Senior Advisors.
    • Play the role of coach and advisor, pulling in other members of your team as necessary
    • Meet with in-state leaders on a weekly basis and as-needed
    • Facilitate cross-state knowledge and resource sharing
    • Play a hands-on role supporting the incubation of new STP organizations
  • Be a Leader
    • Work with in-state leaders to set a vision for best-in-class effective and efficient campus organizing and build buy-in across states and teams.
    • Represent STP to funders and other stakeholders across the ecosystem, while finding opportunities to uplift in-state leaders. (Note: Fundraising will not be a primary responsibility for the STP Director)
    • Regularly meet with partners across the ecosystem to ensure alignment

You should have:

  • Subject matter expertise in how to mobilize college students to vote
  • Extensive experience in one of the following areas, with the expectation that you’d hire a well-rounded team to balance out areas you’re less skilled in: organizing, campaign management, non-profit management, digital / content creation
  • Experience working cross-departmentally, with a preference for experience in cross-department management
  • Excellent management and coaching skills, including experience managing a team or department
  • Demonstrated a track record of rallying a team around a shared vision and representing that vision to internal and external stakeholders
  • Belief in the value of state-based leadership
  • The ability to self-start able to figure out what needs to be done and to ask for help when needed
  • Entrepreneurial spirit - be excited to build a team from the ground up, and support in-state leaders who will in many cases be doing the same

We recognize that candidates can come across these attributes in a variety of ways and are open to candidates from diverse career backgrounds. We suspect that candidates with some of the following experiences may be particularly well-positioned:

  • Organizing Director/Leadership on statewide campaigns
